In an article in Yahoo's entertainment section called Criticism of Tom Cruise stirs Hollywood debate, it says that:
A day after one of Hollywood's most powerful men publicly scolded actor Tom Cruise, the film capital began to think cost-conscious studios may finally be fed up with giving stars the star treatment.
But some industry insiders believe Viacom Inc. Chairman Sumner Redstone's rebuke of Cruise was more a sign that a great money-making career was on the wane.
I've long thought that the glitz and glamour of Hollywood would one day lose its appeal, mostly for the fact that independent films have recently outshined the "blockbuster film" in regards to quality and watchability, unless you're nesting the golden egg that is Pirates of the Carribean.
Studios are starting to take notice and no longer feel the need to spend millions of dollars on their stars. I've long been irked by the fact that celebs make more than a police officer or teacher. That and celebrities are pampered to no end by companies willing to spend fistfuls of money to coerce a star into plugging their product or service -- it needs to end and maybe this is a sign of things to come?
To those celebrities who actually have talent, I feel that they should be compensated, but how much they should earn I'm not exactly sure.
